WEH® Test Connectors for industrial pneumatics

Pneumatic leak tests are the method of choice in many industries and must be quick, reliable and of course leak-free. WEH® Test Connectors are the perfect tool. The device is attached in seconds to the component to be tested, without any need for time-consuming screw connections. The use of WEH® Test Connectors makes additional sealing components redundant.

Pneumatics have become a common component of modern drive and fluid technology and an essential part of many applications in industrial automation. Even if their generated pressure may be relatively low in comparison with hydraulics systems, pneumatics system have one important advantage: they are highly robust to ambient conditions like temperature fluctuations and vibrations.

That is why pneumatic components, like pneumatic cylinders or compressed air cylinders and pneumatic valves, are used in a wide variety of industries today, e.g. machine engineering, process and chemicals industries and in medical technology, but also in the crude oil industry, mining, agriculture and forestry, as well as in food production.

Pneumatic components must be checked for leak tightness before deployment to prevent leakages, which often go undetected and result in increased energy costs. WEH offer a variety of test connectors for many connection types. WEH provides the right connector for pneumatic components with internal or external thread, straight tube or bore, with collar or bead.

The WEH® TW05 Connector is the perfect tool for function, leak tightness and pressure tests of pneumatic components with internal thread. Connection and pressurising (5–12 bar) of the test piece is done in one work step. Simple actuation of the sliding sleeve opens the WEH® Clamping jaws, which then close in the thread. No additional sealing aids are required. The device works entirely without complex and costly clamping and testing devices. A secure and pressure-tight connection is established in seconds – without any need for time-consuming screw connections.

The increased automation going hand in hand with Industry 4.0 also means higher requirements and the expectation of better quality – specifically in mass production. Continuous improvement processes within the framework of quality management are therefore essential for meeting current quality standards and making them more efficient. Mass production increasingly includes automated leak testing processes, as the high item numbers must be reliably leak tested as part of the production process.

The most popular WEH® Connectors for this purpose – which can be found in virtually all industries for many years now – are the TW17 and TW18 connectors, which fit almost any standard internal or external thread.
The modular construction of the TW17 and TW18 series makes the connectors useful in a wide variety of applications. They come in the V version with pneumatic actuation via a valve head or as a P version for external, manual semi or fully automated control systems, as well as in the H version with hand lever actuation for the manual testing of small batch numbers.
The clamping jaws grip the inside or outside of the test piece by applying pilot pressure into the piece via the pilot pressure port. A pressure-tight connection is therefore established automatically. As a result, the leak testing of components can be fully integrated in the production process as part of quality assurance.

WEH® TW800 Universal Connector for leak testing on engines

The automotive sector in particular, increasingly relies on automated processes. In addition to traditional pressure and leak tests, hot and cold tests are performed on engines regularly.
The connections for testing are usually located in hard to reach places, which is why the automotive industry relies heavily on the TW800 and TW850 Universal Connectors, which fit a large selection of connections. Components like pressure vessels, compressors, heat exchangers, engines, hoses, pipes, tanks, etc. are tested either in the low pressure range of max. 50 bar (TW800) or in the high pressure range of max. 630 bar (TW850).

The WEH® TW713 Fuel Connector is a suitable choice for the testing of automotive components, as it was developed specifically for an automated connection to the fuel line in engine test benches.

More than 40 years of development expertise in the area of connection technology at WEH have resulted in products that guarantee efficiency and ergonomics, while fulfilling the strictest safety requirements in the industry.
